Wines of the Month for July 2020
2019 Domaine des Bérioles Gamay Rosé
Saint-Pourçain, Auvergne, France
A dry rosé from South-Central France, this beautiful interpretation of Gamay rosé by Jean Teissèdre is a summertime stunner in the glass. A bright pink-to-peach color, with aromas of red raspberries and forward hints of minerality. On the palate, this rosé showcases strawberries up front, with a bright minerality mid-palate and a lingering finish. A wonderful warm weather wine that can pair easily with light fare or anything off the grill.
2014 Alain Brumont Château Bouscassé Grand Vin de Madiran
50% Tannat, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Cabernet Franc
Madiran, Gascony, France
From the home estate of the Brumont family, certainly the leaders in Madiran, this wine is dominated by Tannat, with additions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend produces rich tannins and broadens the palate to bring in a black-currant flavor, with a crunchy, juicy texture. This wine will age well and should be ready to drink from 2023.
